Enormous Room for Developing Nuclear Power in China 

China is now facing three major challenges: increasing energy demand, climatic change caused by fossil fuel consumption and shortage of such fuel. Nuclear power is the only energy source which could replace coal and provide stable & reliable electricity for the power grid. Until now, nuclear power installed capacity and its generation only comprises of 3.88% of the country’s electricity. There generates enormous room for developing nuclear power in China.

Resumption of Nuclear Power Industry Growth 

According to “The 13th Five Year Plan for Development of Electricity”, nuclear installed capacity will reach 58GWe and over 30GWe will be under construction. To achieve the country’s targets, pace for nuclear power development has to speed up.

As recorded until March 31, 2018, a total of 38 nuclear power reactors are now in commercial operation and its installed capacity reaches as much as 36,933.16MWe. During the first quarter (January-March) of 2018, the cumulative electricity generation reaches 61.098 billion KWh, a 11.15% growth over the same period last year. A 12.28% increase is also recorded for cumulative on-grid power, i.e. 57.261 billion KWh.
